Yes you will be informed of confidentiality and consent prior to the initial session.

  • How long is each session?

    Sessions are 45 - 60minutes in length.

  • What if something happens in therapy that I don’t like?

If something in a session bothers you, communicate your concerns directly with your psychologist. Express what specifically bothered you, seek clarification, and request any necessary changes. Open communication is essential for a positive therapeutic experience.

  • How can I prevent relapsing?

Prevent relapse by following your treatment plan, using coping strategies, staying active, maintaining a routine, connecting with supportive people, self-monitoring your mood, and leading a healthy lifestyle.

Cancelling or rescheduling within 24 hours of your session will result in forfeiture of the session.

  • What is psychological treatment?

Psychological treatment involves therapeutic techniques to help individuals manage and overcome mental health issues. It includes methods like cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), talk therapy, and other counselling strategies aimed at improving emotional well-being, coping skills, and overall mental health.

  • Do I need to bring anything to my appointment?

If you are being referred please bring a copy of the Mental Health Care plan provided by your Doctor.

  • How many sessions will I need?

Psychology isn’t a one-size-fits-all or “set and forget” process. The number of sessions you may need can vary depending on your individual circumstances, goals, and the nature of the concerns you’re seeking support for. Some people find a few sessions helpful, while others may benefit from longer-term support.

If you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you’re eligible for 6 Medicare-rebated sessions initially, with the potential to access up to 10 rebated sessions per calendar year. Your psychologist will work with you to review your progress and recommend a plan that suits your needs.

  • Can I get rebates from private health insurance or Medicare?

$96.65 is rebated via Medicare with Mental Health Care Plan provided by GP.
(This rebate is indexed every year).

In Australia, you can often get rebates on your private health insurance for psychologist appointments. The extent of the rebate depends on your specific insurance policy and level of cover. It's best to check with your private health insurance provider to understand the details of your coverage and any requirements that may apply.

  • What’s the difference between a psychologist and a counsellor?

While both psychologists and counsellors provide mental health support, there are key differences in their training, scope of practice, and the types of issues they treat.

Psychologists are trained to assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of mental health conditions, including more complex or chronic issues. Counsellors typically focus on helping people navigate life challenges, such as relationship issues, stress, or grief, and may not be trained to diagnose mental health disorders.

  • What qualifications do psychologists have (and how are they different from counsellors)?

To become a registered psychologist in Australia, individuals must complete a minimum of six years of university study and/or supervised practice. This includes training in psychological assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment for emotional, behavioural, and cognitive issues.

In contrast, counsellors are not currently regulated in Australia, meaning there are no uniform standards for qualifications. While many counsellors have formal training, the level and type of education can vary widely. Psychologists are also registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), while counsellors are not required to be.

it is never too late to take charge of your health and life.
